Heidelberg Zoo impresses with its beautifully designed grounds, where animals can be observed in their natural environment.

Heidelberg Zoo is one of the oldest and most innovative zoos in Germany. It was officially opened in 1934. Today, the 10-hectare zoo is home to 178 animal species with more than 1,300 animals, including rare species of great apes, Asian golden cats, red pandas, meerkats, zebras, elephants, seals and brown bears.

For children, there is a large children‘s playground and also zoo vacations, zoo camp, zoo school, children‘s birthday parties and exciting tours as well as a petting zoo with dwarf goats, pandas, sheep and chickens.

We provide wheelchairs free of charge for visitors with walking difficulties. Please note that we only have a limited number available. It would be advantageous to book in advance. Boller carts can be hired for a fee (see notice at the ticket office) and a photo ID as a deposit. Reservations are not possible.

Our wheelchairs and pushchairs are regularly maintained and serviced. However, we are obliged to point out that we cannot accept any liability for damage/accidents caused by incorrect operation or use of our wheelchairs/buggies.

April to September 9 am to 7 pm

December 24 and December 31 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Last admission is 30 minutes before closing time.

Bus: Bus stop Zoo/ Heidelberg-Neuenheim, from Heidelberg main station with bus line 32.

By car: Follow the A5 to the Heidelberg interchange, then take the A656 towards Heidelberg. At the end of the highway, follow the signs to the zoo on the left. The zoo is on the other side of the Neckar in Neuenheimer Feld.
