Langbein Museum Hirschhorn

Alleeweg 2, 69434 Hirschhorn

The museum displays the "Naturalia and Antiquities Collection" of Hirschhorn innkeeper Carl Langbein (1816-1881).

What makes this collection so special? Its surprising diversity! Long before local history museums were established everywhere, Hirschhorn innkeeper Carl Langbein began collecting exciting things from nature and history - from old craft tools to taxidermied animals. Even Mark Twain was impressed when he stopped by on his trip to Germany.

Today, you can discover a fascinating mix of sacred and secular objects in his collection - furniture, minerals, taxidermy and many quirky or touching pieces. The redesigned museum brings these "antiquities" into an exciting dialog with our time and invites you to go on a discovery tour. You will be surprised at the connections that emerge between seemingly completely different things.

Let yourself be carried away by the magic of times gone by and, if you like, Mark Twain or Ida Langbein will accompany you through the exhibition with an audio guide. On the first floor, you will also regularly find new and exciting temporary exhibitions.
