Neckargemünd

>

The somewhat shorter tour impressively shows how the Neckar has carved its way. It meanders leisurely around the Dilsberg.

Neckargemünd impresses with its small but beautiful old town and the imposing town gate. In the upper town forest of Neckargemünd, in the direction of Neckarsteinach, a strenuous climb to the Bockfelsenhütte awaits you. There you will be rewarded with a unique view of Neckargemünd-Kleingemünd, the Neckar loop and the Dilsberg with its fortress.

In the middle of the forest, you will discover the Tilly Stone, which commemorates the siege of the Dilsberg by Tilly‘s troops during the Thirty Years‘ War. Although the trail leads around the Dilsberg castle fortress, it is definitely worth a detour. In the tranquil village of Dilsberg, you can visit the castle and enjoy the view of the Neckar, which meanders picturesquely around the entire mountain, from the 16-metre-high castle wall. You will find places to rest at Rosenplatz and Rudolf-Maurer-Platz. In the summer months, regular guided tours are offered, during which you can also visit the well tunnel carved deep into the rock. If you want to stay longer, you can spend the night in the recently renovated youth hostel within the historic walls of the fortress gate.

The connecting trail from Dilsberg to Neckarsteinach leads you downhill along a beautiful path through mixed deciduous forest. In Neckarsteinach, you cross the Neckar for the first time at a barrage, where you can watch the Neckar navigation locks. Numerous park benches along the river and nearby restaurants with shady beer gardens invite you to linger along the Neckar promenade. Nearby is the Nibelungengarten, where you can pause and take in the sculptures. In addition to the Eichendorff Museum, you will also find the information center of the Bergstrasse-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park with the Neckarsteinach tourism center and a cozy café. Or you can explore the four castles of the small Hessian town: Vorderburg, Mittelburg, Hinterburg and Schadeck Castle.
