The Neckargerach-Mosbach stage includes one of the highlights of the Neckarsteig: the Margaretenschlucht gorge, which was declared a nature reserve in 1940.

The Margaretenschlucht trail is equipped with many information boards on geology. Your hike takes you above along the railroad tracks with wonderful views of the Neckar valley and the Mittelberg to the entrance of the Margaretenschlucht gorge. Passing through the gorge is only recommended in good weather. In the event of rain or cold temperatures, you must expect obstructions, as there are always watery sections to cross. You should also be aware that the hiking trail runs over rock steps on dangerous cliffs.

The smaller Ludolfsklinge gorge also blends impressively into the landscape. The Hamberg, Henschelberg and Schreckberg areas are characterized above all by species-rich meadows and juniper heaths, striking rocky banks and scree slopes as well as richly structured forest edges and bushes.

The diversity of the cultural landscape on the shell limestone soils was shaped by their former use as fields, vineyards, meadows and pastures. Dry stone walls made of limestone or red sandstone were once built on the slopes to support the cultivation terraces. Today, these walls provide a valuable habitat for specialized animal and plant species.

Your destination is the historic old town of Mosbach with its lovingly restored half-timbered houses and medieval streets.

Anfahrt mit dem PKW

Der Odenwald liegt im Dreiländereck Baden-Württemberg, Hessen und Bayern. Mit der S-Bahn und dem DB-Regionalverkehr sind es von Karlsruhe, Mannheim, Heidelberg und Heilbronn weniger als 1 Stunde Fahrzeit in den Odenwald. Mit dem Auto ist der Odenwald über die A 81 Würzburg-Heilbronn oder die A 6 Nürnberg-Heidelberg zu erreichen.

Parken: Neckargerach am S-Bahnhof, Mosbach Messplatz

Öffentliche Verkehrsmittel

Anreise mit der DB nach Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof oder nach Bad Wimpfen Bahnhof. Weiterfahrt mit der Neckartalbahn nach Neckargerach. Ab Bad Wimpfen mit der Heilbronner Stadtbahn nach Mosbach-Neckarelz. Umstieg auf die S-Bahn Richtung Heidelberg bis nach Neckargerach.
