Memorial to the deported Jews

Steige 50, 74865 Neckarzimmern

Memorial to the deported Jews of Baden in Neckarzimmern. A concrete band in the shape of a Star of David, about twenty by twenty meters wide, lies on a meadow on the grounds of the Protestant Youth Education Centre in Neckarzimmern.

On this ground sculpture are 120 memorial stones from the Baden communities whose Jewish citizens were deported to Gurs in southwest France on October 22, 1940 on the orders of Baden NSDAP Gauleiter Robert Wagner. These memorial stones were created by youth groups and school classes as part of the "Ecumenical Youth Project Memorial" of the Catholic and Protestant churches. A stele in front of the memorial explains the project and the history of the deportation to the Gurs internment camp.

The memorial is freely accessible. The youth education center is located about two kilometers east of Neckarzimmern on a ridge. Guided tours are available on request.
